| Beechpaw headed over to the area his new mentor had indicated that they'd train in. He was a bit nervous about having to speak so much, but was glad that he'd been assigned Lilysong as his mentor. From what he could tell, she was quite kind and friendly, so he felt a bit better about the situation. I just hope that I don't disappoint her. What if Lilysong regretted being named his mentor because he was just that bad? What if he couldn't master any skills and was stuck as an apprentice forever? The apprentice frowned. Surely neither situation would happen? He hoped not, at least.
When he reached the place, he sat down and waited for Lilysong. He wondered which skills they would work on first. He was definitely more confident in his hunting skills than in his fighting skills, but he knew that both were important. Besides, he wanted to prove his siblings wrong that he could become a skilled fighter. Beechpaw supposed that he'd leave it up to Lilysong to decide what she'd prefer to teach first, knowing that he could get around to the other skills eventually. | |

| Lilysong trotted along after Beechpaw to the safety of the training area that was based out on the moor. Her apprentice had beaten her to the training ground, which she took as a good sign - hopefully he was enthusiastic to begin. She'd been appointed as Beechpaw's new mentor after his previous mentor had gone, and whilst she was excited to teach Beechpaw the skills he needed to become a warrior, she was also undoubtedly nervous - she'd never been a mentor before. That being said, her determination was unprecedented. In her younger days she had spent as much time as possible engaging with pups and younger wolves and, as a result, her patience was endless. She was sure that this would only help her now, especially with Beechpaw who she had learned suffered from a somewhat nervous disposition. "Hello Beechpaw," Lilysong called as she entered the training area, an enthusiastic smile covering her face, "I was thinking that we could start with hunting, how does that sound?" The pale she-wolf wanted to get an idea of where Beechpaw was more confident and where he struggled most and build the training programme up from there. If they started off with something that he was more confident with then, she hoped, he might be a little less discouraged if he encountered any problems in other skills further down the line.

| Beechpaw looked up when he noticed Lilysong enter the training area. He dipped his head in greeting. "Hello." The apprentice's voice was quiet, as was typical for him. There was also an uneasiness to his tone, and he flicked his ears back. "Hunting is fine with me," he added, lowering his gaze to the ground afterwards. He felt a bit better that they'd work on hunting first, but his worry still remained. Even though he was shaping up to be a decent hunter, there was still a possibility that he could fail a hunt miserably. He didn't want to think of the embarrassment he'd feel in such a situation. Shaking his head as if to clear his thoughts, he waited to hear what Lilysong would say next. | |

| Lilysong could tell that Beechpaw was nervous but she didn't let that dwell in her mind - it was to be expected in such early stages of training. She only hoped that he would grow a little more confident as time went on, but that was a lesson she could not teach him here. That was something he would have to teach himself. "First and foremost you must master locating your prey and positioning yourself correctly. It's all well and good having the strength to be able to kill it, by if you can't find it first then that'll be of no use. " Lilysong manoeuvred her body into a simple hunting crouch, keeping her centre of gravity central and low to the ground before, and looked at Beechpaw expectantly. "This is a hunting crouch and is the most effective stance for preparing to sneak up on your prey." She made sure that she had positioned herself sideways to allow Beechpaw the best view of the stance. "Mastering this stance is something that will come with practise, but show me what you've got and then we'll combine it with other aspects once you feel confident enough." She cast her eyes to the land surrounding them, planning what she would say next. She liked that they had an area outside of the camp that they could train in - it gave for a more authentic experience and allowed the apprentices to grow accustomed to performing these tasks out in the wilderness of their territory. After all, that was the end goal, was it not? | |

| The apprentice nodded his head as Lilysong spoke, giving her his full attention. He tried to memorize the points she was making, hoping that he'd be able to remember them when the time came for him to hunt. At the mention of a hunting crouch he lifted his gaze from the ground and focused on Lilysong. He had attempted the hunting crouch a few times before this session but wasn't very confident that he was doing it correctly. "Okay," he said when Lilysong asked him to show her his try at it. He studied his mentor's stance for a few more moments before dropping low to the ground and placing his paws like how Lilysong had placed hers. He looked at his mentor a few more times, making minor corrections when he noticed a difference between their stances. "Is this good?" Frowning, he waited for Lilysong's input on his hunting crouch. He knew that it was likely he'd made some mistakes despite his diligence and just hoped that one day he'd be able to master the stance. | |

| The warrior followed Beechpaw's movements as he adjusted his position to match her own, amused at the look of such pure concentration on his face as he studied her. The crouch that he produced in turn was more than ample to begin training with, and Lilysong signalled her approval with a nod of her head. Now it was time to get into the grit of this exercise. "Finding prey is a little trickier as it differs depending on which animal you hunt. Now, the moor is mostly inhabited by small animals such as rabbits and hares, so we'll start there. " Lilysong moved towards a thicker, taller area of grass, pausing before entering so that she could explain a little more to Beechpaw. "Positioning yourself downwind of prey serves a double purpose - it keeps your scent from alarming your prey, and also lets you locate your prey by scent." She cast her own nose to the air now, confirming that there was indeed prey near-by before returning her attention to her apprentice. "Some smells are more pungent than others. What can you smell from here and where do you suppose the scent is coming from?" After Beechpaw had located the scent Lilysong planned to teach him how to stalk his prey and give him the chance to execute his first real hunt. She hoped that his lack of confidence wouldn't cause him to falter, but she knew that he would try his best nonetheless. That was one of the things she liked so much about Beechpaw - his determination. | |

| Season |
Leaf-Fall has finally started, with the nights gradually getting cooler. Perhaps snow is on the way, perhaps it will be late this year. Either way, the dark shadow that was over the clans seems to have finally lifted, leaving them in peace for now to stock up on rpey for the coming cold months.
This season's successful numbers are: 1, 3, and 8
